SUPERTUBOS, Peniche/Portugal (Monday, October 13, 2014): The penultimate stop on the 2014 Samsung Galaxy ASP World Championship Tour (WCT) could see a conclusion to this year’s exciting title race and will play a crucial role in the battle for requalification.
Current ASP World No. 1 Gabriel Medina (BRA) has the chance to claim his maiden World Title at the Moche Rip Curl Pro Portugal and become the first Brazilian ever to secure the surfing crown.
“It’s such a great wave here, which I really like to surf,” said Medina. “I’m excited to be here because I like to compete in Portugal but I definitely have some nerves coming into the event.”
After strong winds blasted the shores of Peniche yesterday the contest has been put on standby for a second consecutive lay day.
“Even though the winds have abated it's still out of the south and the swell is barely at the 1 foot mark”, said ASP Men's Tour Manager Renato Hickel. “We have called the competition off for the day and we'll come back tomorrow.”
11-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater (USA) is still in contention for the World Title and a win in Portugal will ensure that the title goes to Hawaii.
“It’s going to be a tough year here – both with the conditions and the competition,” said Slater. “I think it will be big this year though, which really suits me but we’ll have to wait and see. Supertubos can change really drastically depending on conditions.”
Current ASP World No. 5 John John Florence (HAW) is fresh from his first WCT victory of the year at the Quiksilver Pro France. The young surfer from Hawaii is one of five other surfers that remain in the running to win the title and stop the Brazilian.
“It feels great to win an event this year, especially after losing to Kelly (Slater) at Trestles,” said Florence. “I had a great rhythm in France and really hope to bring it here. I hope it’s big and barreling.”
Portuguese sensation Tiago Pires is preparing to compete in front of a home crowd after being absent from this competition last year due to injury. The event offers Pires, who is currently at 25th place on the WCT rankings, vital points towards to requalification for 2015.
“Last year I was hurt and I couldn’t compete,” said Pires. “This year I’m really happy to be here. I’m not thinking about the pressure but I’m focusing on support, and I have a lot of that here. At this event you have to be adaptable and ready for any conditions.”
Nic von Rupp (PRT) and Jacob Willcox (AUS) will compete alongside the ASP Top 34 and complete the field for the Moche Rip Curl Pro Portugal. Von Rupp won the trials to secure his place alongside the world’s best surfers and will face Slater in the first Round.
“This is the fourth year I’ve tried to win the trials and make it into the main event,” said Von Rupp. “I’m so happy to be competing and I hope we get some great conditions here at Supertubos.”
Willcox, the 17-year-old from Margaret River, received the Rip Curl wildcard for the event for the second year in the row. The young Australian defeated Slater in last year’s competition and will look to cause another upset when he faces Medina in Round 1.
“I definitely hope I can beat Gabriel (Medina) this year, but I’ll just have to wait and see what happens on the day,” said Willcox. “I just hope that the waves are good and there’s a few barrels.”
Event organizers will reconvene at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14 to assess conditions and make the next call.
Surfline, official forecasters for the Moche Rip Curl Pro Portugal have called for:
A series of storms will impact the Peniche region over the next several days, bringing generally unfavorable wind for Supertubos and periods of rain. Wind driven, shorter period WSW to WNW swell mix continues on Monday with rebuilding and strong onshore wind at Supertubos. The next shorter to mid period swell mix builds in for Tue/Wed as moderate (Tue) to strong (Wed) onshore flow continues. A very solid WNW groundswell is on track for Thur/Fri with more onshore/southerly wind expected.
The following scenarios breakdown the remaining possibilities for Medina to clinch the 2014 ASP World Title at the upcoming Moche Rip Curl Pro Portugal:
- If Medina wins in Portugal, he will clinch the 2014 ASP World Title.
- If Medina finishes Runner-Up in Portugal, Slater will need to win the event to send the title race to Pipeline.
- If Medina finishes 3rd in Portugal, Fanning or Slater will need to win the event to send the title race to Pipeline.
- If Medina finishes 5th at in Portugal, Fanning will need to win the event and/or Slater will need to finish Runner-Up or better to send the title race to Pipeline.
- If Medina finishes 9th in Portugal, Florence or Parkinson will need to win the event, Fanning will need a Runner-Up or better and/or Slater will need a 3rd or better to send the title race to Pipeline.
- If Medina finishes 13th or 25th in Portugal, the title race will go to Pipeline.

SUPERTUBOS, Peniche/Portugal (Sunday, October 12, 2014): Due to unfavorable weather conditions the Moche Rip Curl Pro Portugal, stop No. 10 of 11 on the 2014 Samsung Galaxy ASP World Championship Tour (WCT), is on standby and a lay day has been called.
"With winds of around 45 - 50 knots conditions are dangerous," said ASP Men's Tour Manager, Renato Hickel. "We have closed down the event site for the day and called the contest off. We're hoping that the winds will die down and conditions will improve tomorrow."
The penultimate stop on the 2014 WCT could see a conclusion to this year's hotly contested World Title race. With seven surfers still in the running Gabriel Medina (BRA) is leading the world's best and will clinch his maiden World Title if he takes the win in Portugal.
Surfline, official forecaster for the Moche Rip Curl Pro Portugal, have called for:
We have a good amount of swell on track for the first several days of the waiting period, although local wind for Supertubos looks unfavorable as a series of lows are forecast to impact the coast. Wind driven, shorter to mid period W swell looks likely on Sunday and into Monday with strong onshore wind at Supertubos. The next shorter to mid period swell mix builds in for Tue/Wed and, at this time, onshore wind looks likely to continue. A very solid WNW groundswell is on track for Thur/Fri and we could see a window of improved local wind.

PRAIA DE GUINCHO, Cascais - Portugal (Saturday, October 11, 2014) - Jadson Andre (BRA) 24, has won the ASP Prime Cascais Billabong Pro over Stu Kennedy (AUS) 24 in a one way final disputed in 2-to-3-foot waves.
Andre had a tough road to the final, but managed to beat Jordy Smith (ZAF) for the second time in a row after their semifinal bout in France, before dispatching of fellow Brazilian Dantas in the semis. The explosive goofyfooter kept building momentum at Guincho culminating with a dominant performance in the final to take the win.
“Oh man, it feels great! I don't really know what to say, I just want to say thank you guys for everything, you have made my life, thanks everyone here for the support.” Andre adressed the crowds during the award ceremony. “I was paying a lot of attention during the expression session before the final, and I saw the tide was getting lower, so I was sticking to my game plan of catching a lot of waves and keep building scores, and I’m so stoked that it worked out.”
With his win in Cascais, Andre takes the lead in the QS rankings to solidify his position as a WCT surfer in 2015. Andre also jumps in the lead of the Portuguese Waves Series - Cascais Trophy before the third and final event in Peniche, and has a strong chance of securing the bonus $50k prize purse up for grabs.
Stu Kennedy (AUS) 24, was the Australian revelation in Cascais. After a slow start in the earlier rounds, Kennedy took his surfing to the next level to consecutively eliminate Fredrick Patacchia (HAW), Jeremy Flores (FRA) and Julian Wilson (AUS), three current WCT competitors on his way to the final.
“It feels great to take down some of the big names,” Kennedy said. “Hopefully after this it will burst my profile a bit more and I’m able hopefully to get some sponsor and keep doing this grind to get to the tour !”
For the first time this week, Kennedy seemed out of rhythm in the final and couldn’t stop the continuing assaults from Andre. His best result of the season, a runner-up finish in Cascais will vault the young Australian up to 22nd in the QS race before the last few events in Brazil and Hawaii.
“It’s up there with some of the best results I’ve ever got, I won a 6-Star a few years ago but haven’t been on the podium in a while so it means a lot,” Kennedy continued. “I’m not doing Brazil, so I’ll just leave it up to Hawaii, but I’m not putting the stress on myself to qualify.”
One of the event standouts all-week, Wigolly Dantas (BRA) 26, dispatched of fellow Brazilian Italo Ferreira (BRA) early this morning to reach the semifinals. Lethal on his forehand, Dantas has been dismantling the lefts on offer at Guincho, consistently posting high scores in each all of his matchups.
“It’s funny cause five years ago everyone in Brazil said I couldn’t surf on my forehand,” Dantas commented. “I trained for three years non-stop and I showed them in Saquarema that I could get a result on lefts, now I just want to continue to improve. I love this wave, my girlfriend lives here and I surf here all the time. Portugal is amazing, everytime I come we get solid waves and I’m definitely more confident in bigger conditions.”
Dantas’s great run was halted by event winner Andre in the first semifinal, unable to keep his momentum going. An equal third place in Cascais vaults the young Brazilian to third on the rankings and puts him right in the mix for a maiden qualification for the coveted Samsung Galaxy ASP World Championship Tour in 2015.
“It’s the best feeling in the world to know that I've qualified for the WCT next year,” an ecstatic Dantas continued. “I’m a bit sad that I lost here, but to know that I’m finally in after a long 5 years of trying really hard feels really good, next year is going to be great. I love big waves and barrels and the waves on the WCT will be perfect for my surf, it’s going to be mental.”
Current World No. 17 Julian Wilson (AUS) 25, found momentum on Day 4 of the Cascais Billabong Pro and came out swinging on the morning of finals day to eliminate the last European in contention Michel Bourez (PYF).
“The final was a bit frustrating for sure, this event we’ve seen all sorts of conditions from huge to now really small,” Wilson said. “It’s been really fun, it’s been good to make some heats, get back in the game a bit.”
Wilson couldn’t however stop event runner-up Kennedy in their semifinal matchup and had to settle for an equal third place in Cascais. A good confidence boost Wilson will carry into Stop No. 10 on the WCT, the upcoming Moche Rip Curl Pro Portugal in Peniche.
“I got to surf a lot of heats here and I feel very comfortable and will take some confidence with me to Peniche for sure,” he continued. “I really enjoy the waves over there so it was good to come over here and have a bit of a warm up.”
The Cascais Billabong Pro also rounded up the 2014 European QS season, and after a final day of action in Guincho where Flores and Bourez could potentially net the European Title, it was Joan Duru (FRA) 25, who was crowned the 2014 European Champion, with a runner-up finish in Azores and a 9th place in Pantin.

今朝もうねりはありますが

潮が多いのでシワのみ。
少し引いた方が良さそうですね～
今日も波乗り楽しめそうです。
ここの所毎日波があり楽しめている人も多いと思います。
今日も広範囲で波乗りできていますね～。
先日の話。
台風18号が抜け、お店から一番近いポイント【海水浴場】へ波ﾁｪｯｸをしに行ったところ、一番右端のカボチャﾎﾟｲﾝﾄでどうにか出来るかな？！といった状況の中、見るからにビギナー風の二人組が海へ入って行ってしまいました。
その日は東からのうねりが重なり右側のテトラに向かって入ってくる波もありました。
テトラ沿いには沖に向かうカレントもあるのでタイミングが良ければ簡単に出られます。
その二人は沖には出ていませんでしたが案の定、テトラ沿いでハマってしまい危ないところでした。
駆け寄ってテトラの上から、とにかく海から上がりなさい！と声を掛けてどうにか上がっていきました。
「無事で良かったﾃﾞｽ。」
ここ【海水浴場】ポイントは他の場所よりサイズも落ちるので一見出来そうだとしても台風などのうねりがある時は注意が必要です！
特に波の大きな日はテトラ沿いに強烈な離岸流が発生しますのでパドルに自信の無い人や初心者などは海に入る事は控えてください。
明日土曜日位までは広範囲で初心者から上級者まで楽しめるサイズとなりそうですが、今回の台風19号はかなり大きな台風となっていますので十分に注意してください。
チャレンジも大事ですが無理は禁物！
明日からは3連休とあって海も混雑しそうです。
ご自分の技量を把握しルール＆マナーを守ってください。
ビギナーが混んでいる海に入っても練習にはなりませんよ！
むしろ波数は少ないけど空いている場所を見つけてご自分の練習に励んでください。
あと高浮力ﾎﾞｰﾄﾞ、ﾛﾝｸﾞﾎﾞｰﾄﾞをコントロール出来ない人も危険ですので混んでいるポイントへは入らないようにお願いします。

毎日波があるので入院患者も増えてきています。

間隔は長めですがｾｯﾄが入ってきます。
お昼に向かい潮も引いてくるのでブレイクしてくるポイントも増えてきそうですよ。
潮目見て場所を選んで波乗りしましょう。
この３連休は波はありそうですが台風接近に伴い注意が必要です。
無理は禁物！自分の技量を過信しないように・・・

ROBBERの中古です。
CHANNEL ISLANDS/ROBBER多少の日焼けとフットマークはありますがそこはUSEDという事なのでご勘弁を。
程度的にはまだまだ充分乗り込めますよ！

場所を選べば十分なサイズあります。
今日はサイズダウン傾向ですが何とか１日持つでしょう。
とりあえず早めに１ﾗｳﾝﾄﾞ行っときましょう！

海は大荒れ。
波乗りどころではない状況。
大ｵﾝｼｮｱです。
砂浜の高い位置まで波が来るので危険ですから砂浜には降りないようお願いします。
だいぶ地形も変わってしまっているんだろうな～…
吉と出るか凶と出るか落ち着くまでわかりませんね。
