LOS ANGELES, CA/USA (Thursday, September 4, 2014): The Hurley Pro at Trestles, stop No. 8 of 11 on the 2014 Samsung Galaxy ASP World Championship Tour (WCT), will play host to the world’s best surfers from September 9 – 20, 2014 and will recommence the hunt for the world surfing crown at one of the most high-performance waves on the planet in Southern California’s Lower Trestles. Lower Trestles made its debut on the WCT in 2000 when Andy Irons (HAW) claimed victory and has been hosting the world’s best surfers for the past 15 years. Long a favorite stop on Tour, this high-performance wave peels across the Southern California coastline and will be an all-important contest in the battle to be crowned this year’s ASP World Champion.
“Trestles is the skatepark of surfing,” said defending event champion Taj Burrow. “It’s probably the funnest wave on the planet and lends itself to some of the highest-performance surfing you’ll ever see. The level of talent this season is insane and you’re going to be seeing the limits of power surfing and progressive surfing really pushed at this year’s Hurley Pro.”
11-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater (USA) has claimed victory at Lower Trestles five times in the last seven years. Since 2007 only reigning three-time ASP World Champion Mick Fanning (AUS) and defending event winner Taj Burrow (AUS) have been able disrupt Slater’s dominance, winning in 2009 and 2013 respectively. After a runner-up finish at the previous event in Tahiti, the iconic Floridian currently sits at ASP World No. 2 behind current frontrunner Gabriel Medina (BRA).
“Was good to gain some ground somewhat with a Finals in Tahiti, but Gabriel (Medina) grabbing his third win of the season really puts him in a commanding lead,” Slater said. “Trestles has been a strong event for me historically and I’m generally pretty solid through the back half of the season. If we’re going to stop him (Medina) though, we’re going to need to start putting some wins on the board soon. Hopefully we get good waves.”
Local surfer Tanner Gudauskas (USA) secured the first wildcard for the event when he took the win over a tough field of competitors at the trials in July, using his local knowledge to navigate the tough conditions with ease.
Carlos Munoz (CRI) also earned a wildcard to compete in the Hurley Pro at Trestles after winning the Hurley Pro video trials over runner up Dusty Payne (HAW). Munoz will become the first Costa Rican to compete in a WCT event when joins the ASP Top 34, along with Gudauskas, to complete the field for the Hurley Pro at Trestles.

Praia de Santa Bárbara, Sao Miguel / Azores Islands (Thursday, September 4, 2014) - The SATA Azores Pro pres. by Sumol resumed mid-morning in bumpy 2-to-3-foot surf. The dropping tide gave organizers a 7-hour window of contestable conditions to complete one and a half rounds of competition.
Reigning European Junior Champion Leonardo Fioravanti (ITA) 16, created the biggest surprise of the day when he advanced into the quarterfinals of his first-ever Prime event, defeating Patrick Gudauskas (USA) 28 in the process.
“I’m so stoked, that was such a hard heat,” Fioravanti said. “The waves weren’t that good but I told myself I had to give everything anyway. I’m on a roll at the moment, I’m just enjoying myself out there and it seems to be paying off.”
Sitting in the lineup for over half of the 30-minute exchange without surfing a wave, Fioravanti kept calm and seized the only two opportunities he was given. Catching a final wave on the buzzer, the high-flying regular-footer put it all on the line to throw a Hail Mary manoeuver and take the win.
“I told myself I was going to have to be patient, Pat’s such a good surfer I really needed to be on the best two waves of the heat,” the young Italian added. “I waited super long for the first one, and that last wave felt like it would never come, but thankfully I got it right before the horn.”
Defending event champion, Tomas Hermes (BRA) 27, rounded up the day’s action with a decisive win over local hero Vasco Ribeiro (PRT). The explosive lightweight surfer manage to capitalize on the challenging waves on offer to make the quarterfinals.
“Conditions have changed everyday, we’ve had big, medium and small waves, clean and sometimes not so, on the QS you have to be able to adapt and surf it all,” Hermes stated. “I’m prepared and feeling great so I’ll take it heat by heat and see how far this takes me.”
Currently sitting in 11th position on the QS rankings, Hermes is in an ideal position to strike hard again in Azores, and will look to go back-to-back after his breakthrough victory of 2013 on Sao Miguel.
“You know every surfer wants to win every event, that’s why we do this,” he added. “I’m in a good season, there’s plenty of events left but I like my chances of qualifying in 2014. I’m super happy when I compete, I think that’s why I win, I just enjoy myself so much doing this.”
Matt Banting (AUS) 20, displayed a great deal of maturity, controlling his first heat against Tour veteran Aritz Aranburu (ESP) 29. The young Australian got busy early on, trying to build a scoreboard, then adapted halfway through when his opponent chose to surf another peak. Utilising his priority advantage smartly, Banting found a nice wave to score an excellent 8.33 and seal the deal.
“I just wanted to have the same opportunities as Aritz you know, so I joined him on the other peak,” Banting confirmed. “I was so determined to get through that heat, I’ve just bettered my lowest result so I’m over the moon. I just woke up this morning feeling good, had a big breakfast and tried a new board for the shorey, the waves are a lot smaller today and it works amazing.”
Banting couldn’t unfortunately keep his rhythm in the Round of 16, placing equal 9th. With already two 6-Star event wins under the belt, and an excellent fifth place at a Prime, Banting is still looking very strong to join the prestigious Samsung Galaxy ASP World Championship Tour next season. He will then only reinforce an already massive lineup of Australian athletes in the Top34, hoping he can match the level of performance.
“I’ve dreamt to be on the CT since I was about 5 or 6 years old, as you get closer and closer it feels unreal,” he added. “That heat this morning I felt a lot of pressure to improve my situation. There’s still four big events to go, and I’ve already done the events in Hawaii last year. I made a few rounds there and feel comfortable so hopefully I’ll do good there. The next six months I’ll be trying to build my surfing stronger, more like the guys on tour at the moment.”
Banting’s defeat came at the hands of New Zealand’s Ricardo Christie (NZL) 25, who has been lacking consistency since his excellent start at the Quiksilver Saquarema Prime earlier this year.
“I’m stoked to get through that heat, Matt is a tough draw in waves like that,” Christie said. “I tried to stay relaxed and do my own thing. I got a sponsor after my result in Brazil and I was stoked on that, so hopefully I can keep the ball rolling, keep having fun and make a few more.”
The next call will be Friday at 12pm local time (AZOST). Up first in the water will be Maxime Huscenot (FRA) against Italo Ferreira (BRA) in Heat No.5 of the Round of 16.

LOS ANGELES, CA/USA (Tuesday, September 2, 2014): The ASP Big Wave World Tour (BWWT) Southern Hemisphere season has come to a close and, following a short break, the Northern Hemisphere season will get underway on October 15, 2014. The world’s best big wave chargers are preparing for the second half of the season and the chance to compete at the three remaining world-class big wave venues.The 2014/2015 BWWT season is divided into two parts, the Southern Hemisphere and Northern Hemisphere components, each hosting three potential events in line with optimum swell windows at some of the planet’s most renowned big wave sites. The Southern Hemisphere window, which is now complete, ran from April 15 to August 31, 2014 with event options in Chile, Peru and South Africa. The Northern Hemisphere window begins on October 15, 2014 and runs through February 28, 2015 with event options in Mexico, the Basque Region of Spain, and Maui, Hawaii.
The Southern Hemisphere season saw the BWWT team track several exciting swells with the possibility of running all three events. One swell went on to produce waves that met the required size for a Big Wave event and the 2014/2015 season got off to a thrilling start, with the first event complete and the World Title race underway.
Most recently, a system that was traveling toward South Africa in mid-August prompted event organizers put the Dungeons Challenge on Yellow Alert. The storm system moving toward Cape Town appeared to be promising, however, it didn’t produce the necessary conditions and the event was returned to standby.
In late June a significant swell headed for South America, and the events in Chile and Peru were both placed on Yellow Alert. With the positive developments closer to Pico Alto, the BWWT team put the Quiksilver Ceremonial Chile back on standby, and gave the go-ahead for the event in Peru.
The Billabong Pico Alto became the first event of the 2014/2015 ASP BWWT season, running on Thursday, July 3, 2014 and saw the best big wave surfers on the planet travel to Peru to showcase their skills on the 40 foot waves. Hawaiian Makua Rothman (HAW) claimed his first ASP BWWT victory after winning the final heat with a breathtaking late drop over a terrifying ledge. The ASP wildcard defeated reigning World Champion, Grant ‘Twiggy’ Baker (ZAF) on route to victory, announcing himself as a major threat on the BWWT. With one event complete Rothman sits atop the BWWT rankings with 12,500 points, closely followed by Americans Anthony Tashnick and Shawn Dollar.
The Northern Hemisphere season begins on October 15, 2014 and is comprised of three events: Todos Santos Pro, Mexico; Punta Galea Challenge, Basque Country, Spain; and Pe’Ahi Pro, Maui, Hawaii. A team of experts will track swell systems all over the world waiting for those that will produce waves of 30 feet or bigger at one of the remaining three world-class big wave venues.
“We are anxiously awaiting the first ever paddle in event at Pe’Ahi,” said ASP BWWT Vice President, Gary Linden. “It's perhaps the most challenging Big Wave on the planet and it’s known for the extremely heavy offshore winds, that require a late drop, and a subsequent barrel section that is unparalleled.”
Although the Dungeons Challenge in South Africa and the Quiksilver Ceremonial in Chile did not experience sufficiently large enough surf to complete the events, the BWWT is committed to supporting the world's best big wave surfers and will be rolling over the $100,000 in prize money for those events to the upcoming contests. Both the Punta Galea Challenge and the Todos Santos Pro will be upgraded to $75,000 prize purses and the Pe’Ahi Pro will see its prize money pushed up to $100,000. Should any of the three remaining BWWT events not be held the prize money will be distributed among the Top Ten finishers at the end of the 2014/2015 season and awarded when the 2014/2015 ASP Big Wave World Champion is crowned at the XXL BWWT Awards next spring.
“We’re really pleased to be able to roll over the Southern Hemisphere prize money into the upcoming contests,” said ASP BWWT Commissioner, Peter Mel. “With the prospect of three world-class events, some really positive swell predictions and increased prize money the Northern Hemisphere window looks set to be one of the most exciting seasons yet.”

週休３日、２食昼寝付の高待遇な小鉄店長
朝はオーナーに起こされるまで寝ています。
目覚めてから朝ごはん。
小鉄ｻﾝが食べ終わり、出勤準備をしている間に・・・・
・・・・と、寝て待つ。
・・・と、起こされ、いざ出勤となります。
送り迎え付の小鉄ｻﾝはオーナーの高級バイクのステップに乗り込み.........
あっという間にお店に到着。
こんな感じで走ってきます。
お店に着いてから見回りをし、用を足し開店するのでした。
太陽が出ていればまずは店先で日向ぼっこをしながらお客様を迎えるふり。
こうして小鉄店長の１日がﾊｼﾞﾏﾘﾏｽ。
「オレと代わってくれ・・・・」
いつもよりシワが寄ってます。

海水浴場の営業も終了しうねりさえ入ればサーフィン可能となりましたが肝心の波がありません。
